Brock & Wallace
- ABOUT US -
Brock & Wallace was a small local supermarket that served residents of Mableton and Austell, Georgia starting in 1946. The picture above is from 1956. It was started by my grandparents and great grandparents after moving there from Atlanta. Intitially my great grandparents (Brock) lived in the back of the store and as business grew they moved into a house just down the street. My grandparents (Wallace) lived a mile and half away.
Brock and Wallace was a thriving place for a number of years. Many customers enjoyed extended credit paying at the end of the month or when they could. Over the years when I would see or meet people who grew up in the area they would relay their recollections of our family owned grocery store. We enjoyed hearing their stories of shopping there, mostly mentioned as "trading" and our favorite "that was my first job".
As the area grew in the late 60's and early 70's the large chain stores (truly supermarkets), such as A&P, began to move into town. It became too much to compete with. There were no hard feelings (well maybe some) as my grandfather said, it was inevitable. Still, the store had provided a good living for his family as it grew, provided jobs, helped build a community, and gave endless memories to our family.
Our new version of Brock & Wallace is dedicated to finding great local products from around the country that aren't typically found at big grocery chains. There will also be things you'll be able to find on this site that you won't ever see in a grocery store. (see the Other tab at the top) We are just getting started but I can't tell you how excited we are to bring great quality products to you. We look forward to your patronage and feedback.
